Professor Aswath Damodaran (NYU Stern) is one of the world's foremost teachers, researchers and practitioners of corporate valuation. His go-to-textbook on Investment Valuation offers a hands-on framework for valuing a company by calculating the present value of forecasted future cash flows, adding present day asset values (e.g. cash, non-operating assets), and subtracting present day debt to arrive at a rational equity price which can be compared to the current stock price. Doing valuation well is the underpinning to rational markets.

Someone asked me the other day if I was a Democrat or a Republican. I definitely lean Democrat on social issues, but I can't be a Democrat or Republican when I consider what both parties have presided over for the last 40+ years. It's the largest debt accrual in the history of nation-states. When you take into account Debt-to-GDP the picture softens, but it's still dangerously irresponsible.

hmmm, it may actually be the American Brand in a lot of ways. Don't mess with it or with globalization.

"The world is incredibly long on the U.S. (to the tune of $27.6 trillion)," says Brad Setser, senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. "It's not so much that people need to be convinced to hold onto their U.S. assets, but to buy more." Given the geopolitical whirlwind emanating from Washington, convincing the world to stick with the U.S. right now may be a tough sell.
